Our History

Tio Joe's Cocina Mexicana opened its doors on April 02, 2005 same day that its owner, Dallas entrepreneur, Joe Mata, was celebrating his 34th birthday. After high school, Joe started dreaming of the idea of establishing a family owned restaurant where he could cook his family's recipes and introduce distinctive flavors from Michoacan, MEXICO where he was born.

Tio Joe's soon became the favorite spot of Downtown Dallas, Oak Cliff and Kessler Park locals as well as business people that like to enjoy a skillfully balanced meal in a unique environment, a dining experience that starts upon as you enter its doors and walk through the stone and wood patio surrounded by palm trees while the water runs down the fountain.

Diners are always enchanted with the authentically Mexican-tiled floors and the beautiful arches. Three separate and intimate dining areas are divided by low walls painted with murals keeping with the Mexican Hacienda theme.
